The first General Overseer of Upper Room Baptist Church, ordained on 8 July 1995.

2004 – 2024

Appointed and ordained on 31 December 2003 as the General Overseer of Upper Room Baptist Church.

Our Journey

Our History

December 1987

URBC Was Founded

The Upper Room Church was founded by 17 families and started her first church service on October 15, 1987.

December 1989

Relocation

The Church moved from its temporary site to her permanent location at 2A Davies Street, Ketu. And started her first service on February 21, 1990.

January 1991

Permanent Site

The church auditorium at the permanent location was completed and officially dedicated.

March 1994

A New Parish Emerged

The first parish after the headquarters church started on March 26, 1994 at Arowojobe Street, Mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos after a 3 day crusade programme.

July 8, 1995

First G.O. Was Ordained

On July 8, 1995, the first General Overseer of the Upper Room Baptist Church, Pastor Biodun Longe, was ordained by Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye.

September 1996

Upper Room Bible College

The Upper Room Bible College was established on September 19, 1996 to enhance the fulfillment of the great commission by helping believers to grow in the knowledge of God.

March 2003

URBC First School

The church established and started her primary school, Upper Room Nursery & Primary School. It was opened for admission on the 3rd of March 2003 with Mrs Funmi Otegbeye as the pioneer headmistress.

December 2003

A New G.O. Emerged

On December 31st 2003, Pastor Oluleke Akinola was appointed and ordained by Pastor Biodun Longe as the new General Overseer of Upper Room Baptist Church.

January 2014

Successful Affiliation

In 2014, the Upper Room Bible College became affiliated with the West African Theological Seminary (WATS), which in itself is an affiliate of University of Nigeria, Nsukka, as a degree awarding institution.

How We Serve

Our Tools of Engagement

Our primary tools of engagement are teaching and preaching of the gospel of salvation with both apostolic and prophetic insights, as the Lord makes grace available. URBC is a teaching and equipping centre attended by people who play active roles in their local churches and ministries both home and abroad. The major platforms of the ministry for teaching and equipping of saints include School of the Spirit, Writing the Vision and Revelation Hour.

Reaching the Nations

Having done this over the years, we have found grace to reach communities of believers at home and abroad through teaching conferences in both Nigeria and the UK, as well as in Canada, Austria, Houston, Poland and Cyprus on several platforms. The Upper Room Baptist Church has found grace to promote the unity of the Faith revealed in the New Testament which promises to lead every believing believer ultimately into the fellowship of Eternal Life.
